Is photographing artwork different than other photography?
Artwork photography is a specialty and requires a different set of skills than commercial or portrait. Photographing two-dimensional artwork often times needs to treated as a three dimensional object due to reflections and texture. Techniques include using directional light or polarized light.
What is a Giclee print?
Giclee (pronounced “zhee-clay) is no more than an invented French word for the process of making a fine art print using an inkjet printer. A Giclee print is usually printed onto high quality art paper or canvas, which is almost exclusively archival.
What is the best way to do a limited edition?
A limited edition has been a standard in printmaking for many years and now is being using for Giclee printing. Editions can be small or large depending on the artist and the value of their work. To reduce costs only a small portion of the edition needs to printed in the beginning with additional prints made at a later time. It is most important to have a consistent source of prints that match each other over time, which requires a tight color management system, which can be recalibrated.
